CHARLTON midfielder Danny Hollands believes the Addicks are definitely good enough to compete back in the Championship next season.

The 26-year-old grabbed the Addicks' equaliser on Saturday against Hartlepool United in their 3-2 victory to crown the season with another three points - and lift League One trophy.

"We played a few teams last pre-season like Cardiff City, Bristol City and Millwall," said the former AFC Bournemouth man.

"We felt we were good enough to compete against them, but it's one of those things that we're going to take game-by-game again.

"We'll see how we get on. People have seen what Norwich City and Southampton have done, but obviously for us, it's a case of taking it game-by-game and if we can start well, you never know what might can happen.

And Hollands admits playing in English football's second tier will be new territory for most of the current squad.

"It will be my first time playing in the Championship, as will it be for a lot of the other lads, apart from four five, so it's a new experience, but an experience we're looking forward to.

"We feel we're good enough to compete with the teams in there and hopefully we can do all right.

"There are great places we'll be playing at and also some good teams coming to The Valley, but it will just be good to test yourself against those types of players."

The Chelsea academy graduate says everyone in the squad will enjoy the moment of gaining promotion, but he admitted it didn't take long for the new-look squad to bond well after just a few weeks last summer.

"We went away to Lepe in Spain early in pre-season and we gelled really, really well," he said.

"I just felt from that week, we became closer and I thought the results would come.

"It's a big achievement and the fans have stuck by us for the whole year, so it's been great all-in-all.

"It starts again now so we've just got to enjoy the moment and look forward to next year.

"Everyone's enjoyed it, there's a great group of lads, but we know the hard work starts again in July."

And the engine-roomer paid tribute to manager Chris Powell, who he believes has brought a close-knit atmosphere to SE7.

"He's a great manager, he's well respected and he's had a great career," said Hollands.

"Any advice or anything he tells you, you take it in because he's been there and done it.

"It helps when manager's have been there, and he also played for England, but he's been fantastic to all of us this year and we just want to do him proud again next year."
