Jackett set to play long waiting game on Spurs ace

The striker is due to go back to Tottenham this summer having scored nine goals for The Lions, his final one in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Blackpool at The Den.

But Jackett is still hopeful something can be sorted out between the two clubs between now and August.

He said: “Whether or not we get him next season is a big question.

“Perhaps there are a lot of things going to happen at Spurs over the summer, but he’s still only 18, so I’m sure they will take him back for pre-season and have a look at him alongside the other strikers.

“We will certainly make the right calls, but this is a question I can’t answer because the nature is that he is a Spurs player.”

Kane was impressive on Saturday scoring Millwall’s equaliser against the Tangerines with less than 10 minutes to go.

The forward unleashed a brilliant strike past Matt Gilks in a game the Lions dominated in the early stages and his recent performances have impressed the Millwall chief.

Jackett explained: “We have watched him develop and gain confidence in the group as the season has gone on.

“When he started he was new and coming into it and maybe he’d pass it and as the months have gone on he has taken responsibility to either play someone in, play the one-two and certainly to shoot.

“He has earned the confidence with the other players who are now looking for him to take on responsibility and the good thing for him is he has been able to come in and earn that and we have seen that progress.

“He didn’t score too many in the first couple of months but he has found his feet and developed well.”

Having flirted with relegation for a large portion of the campaign, finishing 16th in the Championship represents a very good end to the season for the Lions.

Jackett was pleased with Saturday’s point and views Blackpool’s progress as one to try and emulate next season.

He added: “I like the way Blackpool play and I think they are a competent side both in position and out and the model is one we would like to base ourselves on.

“Overall, in the last eight games we have won six and drawn two, which is an outstanding run.

“You don’t see that in this league, it is a fantastic run and fully deserved by the players. We have finished 17 points from relegation and I think I did not sleep for about seven months.

“We have caught Crystal Palace and at one stage I looked and the gap between us was 15 points, so it has been a very good end to the season and should give us confidence going into next year.”
