CHARLTON striker Danny Haynes was delighted to be back playing and scoring in his team’s 2-2 draw at Preston on Saturday.

The January signing from Barnsley scored his first goal for the Addicks in the game, which was also his first start since March against Notts County where he was withdrawn through injury in the opening 10 minutes.

And now the attacker is hoping Saturday’s performance can act as platform for his Charlton career to finally get off the ground.

Haynes said: “It was nice to get my first goal for the club and hopefully it’s the first of many more to come.

“I’m looking forward to pushing on and getting more goals next year and on Saturday against Hartlepool because we’ve got a game and hopefully I can get another goal.

“It was good to get 90 minutes as well.

“I didn’t feel unfit but obviously towards the end I started feeling heavy legged but it was nice to be kept on.”

He added: “I got the goal, so that won’t go unnoticed, and hopefully my performance will keep me in the team for next week.

“I know I can do better but obviously it was my first full game, so hopefully things will only get better.”

The final away game of the season is traditionally fancy dress day for treavelling fans all over the country and the Addicks were backed at Deepdale by almost 2,000 eccentrically dressed supporters.

Although Haynes only joined Charlton in January, he was quick to praise their impact on the club’s success.

He added: “The fans have been magnificent throughout the season.

“Obviously I’ve only been here since January, but since I’ve been here they’ve been spot on and their support has not gone unnoticed.

“I would like to thank the fans for being there throughout the season.”
