Millwall 2-2 Blackpool

Kane’s 84th minute equaliser came after goals from Ian Evatt and Nouha Dicko looked to have secured fourth place for the Tangerines in a game the Lions will feel they should have put to bed in the opening 20 minutes.

The home side dominated the opening exchanges with efforts from Kane and Josh Wright putting increasing pressure on a Blackpool side who may have been forgiven for having one eye already on the play-offs.

Millwall took a deserved lead after 11 minutes through Andy Keogh’s eighth goal of the season.

The frontman latched onto a perfectly weighted cross from James Henry and did brilliantly to beat the offside trap before slotting a glorious side-footed volley past Matthew Gilks.

Blackpool responded to going behind by increasing their pressure with Lomana Tresor Lua Lua looking the most likely threat, but the Lions remained comfortable and Maik Taylor had very little to do in the Millwall goal.

The Tangerines equalised against the run of play in the 26th minute as Evatt latched onto a cross from Stephen Crainey and planted a bullet header into the far corner.

This was a bitter pill for the Millwall fans to swallow having watched their side spurn a number of opportunities.

Moments before, during a period of intense pressure which produced three corners on the spin, Lions captain Paul Robinson headed across the face of the goal before the ball bounced just over the bar.

Half-time came and Millwall manager Kenny Jackett will have been in no doubt his side could have put the game to bed well before the referee blew his whistle.

The second half was a much more open affair with chances at both ends.

Liam Trotter had the best early effort for the Lions as his curling strike floated over the bar and later he had a header saved on the line.

But it was Blackpool who went in front on 71 minutes when Dicko met Crainey’s cross and scored from close range.

However, Kane’s brilliant strike came from an extended period of Millwall pressure as the home fans roared their side forward chasing an equaliser.

The striker shot from outside the area leaving Gilks with no chance and sending The Den into joyous celebrations.

The result gives Millwall a 16th place finish with 57 points in the Championship and their impressive recent form will give fans good reason to believe the Lions can go into next season feeling confident.
