CHRIS Powell is not ruling out the possibility of fielding some youth team players at the end of this season, as long as promotion is secured.

The Addicks have yet to confirm a return to the Championship but currently sit at the top of League One with their own destiny in their hands.

Last season Callum Harriott played against Hartlepool on the final day of the season and Powell is open to the possibility of giving the younger generation a chance to shine – if the circumstances are right.

He said: "Last year at home to Hartlepool, which is our last game again this season, it was right to put in one of the young players and on that occasion it happened to be Callum Harriott's turn.

"We will have to wait and see if that will happen this year, as the youth team might have one or two bigger games for themselves in regards to their league and play-off position.

"It would be nice to give them a chance and of course you do want to blood the youngsters.

"Let's hope by the last game of the season we can all relax.”

Charlton U18s scored 10 goals against MK Dons last week, a result which delighted Powell, who believes the current crop of kids have bright futures ahead of them.

He added: "The youngsters have done a great job this year but this does not surprise me.

"They have been coached brilliantly and there are players in that squad that I think will have great futures with this football club.

"I really hope they are successful this season and hopefully they will get into the play-offs at the academy.”
