IT may be unlucky for some, but the number 13 proved to be Charlton’s lucky number after Saturday’s narrow win at AFC Bournemouth.

The League One leaders won their 13th away game of the season and in doing so, extended their lead at the top of the table to 13 points.

Yann Kermorgant scored the only goal of the game deep into stoppage time to send the Addicks home with all three points, and with all their promotion rivals dropping points, it turned into a fantastic day for Chris Powell's side.

The French striker was delighted to grab his ninth goal of the season and he was equally pleased to see his team grab a third win in a week.

He said: “I am very happy to score, but I am even more happy that we won the game.

"It’s now three wins in a week for us, which is very good.”

Victory against the Cherries saw Charlton break a club record for the number of away wins in a season, which they set in the 1999/2000 campaign when manager Chris Powell was a player, and Kermorgant was quick to highlight his side’s terrific away form.

“When you play away from home, you have to stay strong and try to grab a goal, and take advantage of your set-pieces," said the 30-year-old.

“That’s what we did, and we scored in the last minute, which made it even better. “But we have been amazing this year away from home.

“Sometimes it’s easier for us to win away because the home team has to come out and win the game.

“When they come to the Valley it’s a lot tighter.”

And the former Leicester City man was eager to praise the Charlton fans for their season’s efforts, as well as the supporters who travelled to the south coast on Saturday.

The table-toppers were backed by two opposite sides of the Seward Stadium and all of the supporters would have had a great view of the Frenchman’s last gasp winner.

He said: “We had a very big crowd and the fans have been fantastic since the start of the season.

“They give us a lot of power and energy all over the pitch. And I’ve said it before, they deserve a team in the Championship.

“We will do our best to make sure we are in the not in League One next year.”
