DARTFORD are out of the FA Trophy after last night’s replay defeat at Wealdstone.

Tony Burman’s side were suckered into playing Wealdstone at their own game - the standard Ryman knock on and chase tactic, something totally alien to their more cultured approach to football. It was to prove their undoing.

The first period was end-to-end stuff and there were half chances at both ends before a typical Wealdstone move on 27 minutes which saw the home side score the only goal of the evening.

Kurtney Brooks fed Richard Jolly, who ran half the length of the pitch and squared inside to Lee Chappell.

Chappell cut into Darts’ penalty area and thumped a shot past keeper Louis Wells.

Two minutes before half-time Jon Wallis was set up but his shot from the edge of the area went narrowly wide.

The second half saw Dartford playing up the deceptive slope and it was more of the same until just after the hour mark when the game erupted in a series of red card incidents.

Wealdstone’s Chris O’Leary, who had made an impression in the tie at Princes Park, over-reacted to a challenge from James Rogers and was sent for an early bath.

Within a minute Rogers was similarly dismissed for a tackle on Peter Dean.

There followed a minute or so of 'handbags at dawn' before the referee reasserted control.

Wealdstone were reduced to nine men when Connor Smith was sent off after a late challenge on Lee Noble.

With the slope in their favour, Wealdstone settled for security by aiming howitzer clearances at Jolly to relieve the pressure and run down the clock.

Substitutions in quick succession helped eat up the time but, with five minutes remaining, Lee Burns could have taken the tie to extra-time but he skewered a Danny Harris pass wide of the home left post.
