CHARLTON keeper Ben Hamer feels last night’s 1-1 draw at home to Rochdale felt more like a loss for the title-chasing Addicks.

The home side were frustrated by their opponents, who sit second from bottom in League One, and in the end had to settle for a share of the spoils after Yann Kermogant’s spectacular free-kick cancelled out Nicky Adams’ 53rd minute opener.

Small sections of The Valley faithful expressed their disappointment at the final whistle and Hamer admitted he understood the frustration after a below-par performance.

The keeper said: “I’m very disappointed.

“We came in like we lost the game but in all fairness we didn’t play great.

“I can feel the frustrations of the supporters because we have set ourselves better standards than that.

“Personally I feel like we lost because I wanted the three points.

“It’s just a disappointing result but Rochdale came down and passed the ball and it is another point I suppose.

“We left ourselves three on two and Nicky Adams got very lucky with the finish.

“Rhoys blocked the ball and it bounced in off him and gave them something to cling on to.”

But they didn’t hold on for long as Kermogant’s free-kick levelled the scores three minutes later, the first time a Charlton striker has found the net in 2012.

Hamer said: “It was a great finish by Yann.

“He has got that quality but we shouldn’t have to rely on that.

“It’s hard to explain.

“We are in a sticky patch at the moment but we are still getting points and we’ve kept our home record intact.”

Hamer and his team-mates have a chance to bounce back on Saturday when they entertain Stevenage in the second Football for a Fiver game of the season.

With ticket sales already beyond the 20,000 mark, the keeper hopes an almost capacity crowd can help avenge one of only two defeats suffered by the Addicks this season.

He said: “It is a big stadium to fill and produce atmosphere.

“We had a big crowd at the start of the season against Chesterfield and put on a good performance.

“Hopefully if they get behind is on Saturday it should give us a lift and produce another good performance for them.

“We aren’t looking for revenge, we just want three points from every game we play.

“They beat us earlier in the season fair and square.”

Hamer added: “They are a physical side.

“Some teams like to play and some use their physical attributes and Stevenage are one of them.

“They are strong and don’t concede a lot of goals, so I’m sure they'll make it very difficult for us.

“But this is where we have to show our worth if we want to be champions, we have to come through Tuesday and Saturday games.

“If we take points out of the games in the next three weeks I think we have got a great chance.”
