Lions manager refuses to second guess Bolton selection tactics

KENNY Jackett is unwilling to speculate on what kind of team Bolton will field in this weekend’s FA Cup tie at The Den.

This is the first time since reaching the final in 2004 Millwall have progressed as far as the fifth round of the competition and Jackett admits it is an occasion everyone is looking forward to.

The Lions boss will field his strongest XI against the Trotters but with Bolton struggling at the wrong end of the table, it won’t be clear until before kick-off whether opposite number Owen Coyle will do the same.

“I don’t know to be honest with you,” said Jackett.

“I really don’t know what they are going to do and wouldn’t try and double guess Owen Coyle.

“I have a lot of respect for Owen, he has done a fantastic job at both Burnley and Bolton, but exactly what they are going to do on the day is a hard call.

“We are pleased to get through in this competition, it is the type of day we all want taking a Premier League side down at The Den.

“It is an opportunity for the players to pit their wits against players who are well established in a Premier League side because Bolton have been up there for a number of years now.

“For our supporters it is something different and for the club as a whole it is extra revenue, it is an occasion and a potential for even further revenue as well.”

Millwall go into the game on the back of Tuesday’s 2-2 draw at Brighton, with keeper David Forde’s mistake a key factor in the Seagulls’ late equaliser.

Jackett revealed his number one had acknowledged his error to his team-mates afterwards and went on to point out there were positives to take from the display despite the result.

He said: “David Forde was disappointed in the dressing room but he did put his hands up.

“I’m not saying drawing away from home is a bad thing but when you lead twice and then they equalise on 88 minutes you have to look at it as two points lost.

“But the performance was good, we played well and scored twice.

“We gave as good as we got on the day, although we are disappointed not to win the game.

“Performance levels since the Watford game have been good and that is something for us to base on anyway.”
