JOHNNIE Jackson struck twice from the spot in the first half to seal a 2-1 Valley win over MK Dons.
Dale Stephens, whose stunning strike from outside of the area rescued a point against Bury in Charlton’s last game a fortnight, tried his luck with a similar effort inside three minutes but his stinging shot was blocked by a Dons defender.
Luke Chadwick placed a 25 yard volley straight at Ben Hamer and the Addicks keeper was tested again by former Valley youngster Charlie MacDonald’s low drive.
Charlton’s fans were appealing loudly for a penalty on 18 minutes when Yann Kermorgant went to ground under a challenge from Shaun Williams as the Addicks striker tried to get on the end of Chris Solly’s cross, but if there was a push, it wasn’t spotted by the officials.
Gary MacKenzie picked up a 24th minute yellow card for clattering into Kermorgant just in front of the Charlton dugout.
MK Dons keeper David Martin had to scramble back to get on his line and spare MacKenzie’s blushes after his 30th minute clearance deflected off Wright-Phillips and headed goalwards.
The home fans again made their opinion clear, claiming the shot had crossed the line, but it did appear as if the keeper had got back in time.
Skipper Jackson, whose free-kick expertise sunk Sheffield Wednesday and United last month, came close again with the same party trick but this time his 32nd minute attempt went inches wide of the post.
MK Dons went close to taking the lead in the 36th minute when Dean Potter’s cross was headed on by Dean Bowditch to Alan Smith.
Smith’s header was well saved by Hamer with MacDonald firing the loose ball over from 15 yards.
James Tavernier fired straight at the home keeper from 20 yards two minutes later, but it was always looked a comfortable stop.
But it was Charlton who took the lead two minutes before the interval after the MK Dons were reduced to 10-men.
Solly’s low drive was hacked clear by the visiting defence but as the players cleared their lines, MacKenzie appeared to push his head into Kermorgant.
The linesman flagged for a penalty and after MacKenzie had received his marching orders, kit was skipper Jackson who stepped forward to smash the spot kick home.
And the advantage was doubled in first half stoppage time when the hosts were awarded another penalty.
Green’s spectacular 35 yard shot cannoned back off the bar to Kermorgant, who teed up Jackson before the Addicks skipper was tripped by Chadwick just inside the area.
And it was Jackson who took the responsibility with the spot kick again, this time placing a powerful shot into the bottom right corner.
Green shot Kermo back to Jackson tripped by Chadwick and Jackson placed the penalty into the opposite corner, giving Martin no chance.
The second half started slowly and Charlton made a change on 63 minutes when double goal hero Jackson was replaced by Danny Haynes.
Wright-Phillips will be annoyed he didn’t at least test Martin five minutes later after being picked out by strike partner Kermorgant, but he fired wide from 15 yards.
Stephen Gleeson’s 81st minute shot from 20 yards was excellently tipped behind by Hamer for a corner.
But there was a late twist when Dean Bowditch pulled one back three minutes from the end, although there was to be no late comeback and the hosts held on.
