KENNY Jackett says he is still waiting to hear back from Barnsley after Millwall made a move for striker Danny Haynes.

The Lions were confident of wrapping up a quick deal for the 23-year-old after making their interest clear earlier this week, but Charlton have since entered the race for Haynes’ signature.

It is believed Charlton are willing to pay a transfer fee to get the player whereas Millwall are understood to have only offered him a loan.

Jackett was reticent when asked by News Shopper this morning about the terms of Millwall’s original bid, but did confirm an offer was on the table.

He said: “We did make an enquiry on Tuesday but since then there has been no contact.

“I don’t know if that is the end of it, I’m waiting to hear back but I haven’t heard anything for a couple of days now.

“We talked to Barnsley on Tuesday and we put some proposals together but for whatever reason it hasn’t happened.

“They seemed very keen at the time but it hasn’t happened yet.”

When asked what prompted him to go for Haynes, Jackett added: “I’m looking to change things around and if a player is available who we think can improve us and add some competition, then we will go in.”

But the news about a possible return for another former Lions loan player looks less promising after Jackett admitted Jason Puncheon is now unlikely to come back.

He said: “It’s not something we can keep talking about.

“We haven’t been able to bring Jason Puncheon into the club and we have to move on to other players.

“Who knows what the situation is but from our point of view it hasn’t happened.

“He isn’t here, so it is pretty evident it is unlikely.”

Millwall are currently taking a look at winger Martin Pusic, who is on trial at The Den after being released by Championship rivals Hull City.

Jackett said: “He is a wide left player who has played three games for Hull City this season and is down here for a few days, including today and tomorrow.

“He has done OK.

“My first impressions are he looks strong and competitive.

“We will assess him further today and tomorrow.”
