KENNY Jackett has conceded he will have to rethink his starting line-up after Millwall suffered a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to struggling Bristol City at The Den on Sunday.

Goals from Nicky Maynard either side of Jay Simpson’s leveller left Millwall just two points above the drop zone and Lions boss Jackett was left frustrated his side didn’t apply more pressure after equalising in the second half.

He said: “We had a big opportunity on 56 minutes.

“We got back to 1-1 and I was looking for a big half an hour as the home side attacking towards our fans, but really I felt at that period Bristol City took control and that was the most disappointing thing.

“Whatever had gone on in the game before then, once we’d got the equaliser, I was looking for us to push on and I don’t think performance-wise we did that.

“We didn’t step it up a gear.

“Darius Henderson had a reasonable shout for a penalty early on and that could have changed the course of the game.

“He felt it was a penalty.

“However, overall we need to do better.

“We need to focus and come out fighting again next week against Crystal Palace”

Maynard and Albert Adomah were impressive throughout for the visitors and the Millwall boss agreed his side failed to deal with their threat.

“On the break, in Maynard and Adomah, they had two very good players who gave us problems all afternoon,” admitted Jackett.

“We were quite open and Maynard’s movement caused us a lot of problems.

“But the Championship has got a lot of good players in it and we have to find the key to the equation.”

The Lions’ cause wasn’t helped by losing keeper David Forde in the first half to a thigh injury.

And although Jackett has backed reserve stopper Steve Mildenhall to step up to the mark, the manager admits he could dip into the loan market this week and plans to shuffle his side.

Jackett said: “David pulled out of the Ireland squad with that injury last week and it’s obviously not quite recovered, although he trained on Friday and Saturday.

“It’s not badly torn but we must make sure we get it right.

“I’ve got confidence in Mildenhall.

“He’s an experienced goalkeeper and this is what he’s here for.

“It wasn’t a great team performance from ourselves, so in terms of the window we’ll see what the situation is.

“And I am definitely thinking of shaking things up in terms of the starting XI.

“We’ll see who that is but there will be changes.”
