BROMLEY'S gallant FA Cup run is over after they went out at Leyton Orient this afternoon.

The Lillywhites, who were competing at this stage of the competition for the third time under Mark Goldberg, were skippered by former Orient defender Joe Dolan.

Mark Goldberg's son Bradley, who is on work experience from Charlton, was named as a substitute for the Conference South side.

Leyton Orient included a few familiar names in their line-up.

George Porter made his name playing for Bromley's Hayes Lane tenants Cray Wanderers, who the one-time Coopers School pupil joined after missing out on the opportunity to join the Lillywhites' youth academy.

David Mooney and Matt Spring were both signed by Phil Parkinson during his time in charge at Charlton, while another former Addick Elliot Omozusi was also on the bench along with ex-Millwall duo Jamie Cureton and Marc Laird.

Bromley started brightly and there was confusion in the Orient defence when Gareth Williams' fifth minute free-kick evaded everyone in a packed penalty area before sailing just wide of Ben Alnwick's post.

However, it was the League One side who got their noses in front two minutes later as their first attack ended with Spring unleashing an unstoppable 20 yard shot beyond Tommy Forecast.

Dean Cox fired over moments later and then drilled a low shot well wide of the target on 10 minutes as the home side looked to quickly extend their early advantage.

Bromley tested Alnwick on 16 minutes when Gareth Williams got on the end of Hakeem Araba's flick on before shooting straight at the Os keeper.

Danny Waldren saw his 25th minute shot blocked before Araba fired the loose ball over as Bromley again gave notice they were still firmly in this game.

They really should have equalised on 33 minutes when Williams' corner was only half cleared to Rory Hill, but his shot from inside of the area went high over the bar.

Cox was replaced by Cureton after failing to shake off an injury picked up earlier on following a challenge by Williams.

Williams was unable to meet another Araba flick on, while Dolan made a crucial block at the other end on Porter's shot moments before Cureton placed an effort just wide of the post with Forecast at full stretch.

In stoppage time Bromley won a free-kick just outside of the area after Leon McSweeney handled but Williams' placed his effort over the bar with the last kick of the half.

Waldren tried his luck with a 53rd minute long range shot that went wide and there was confusion three minutes later when the referee signalled a free-kick for the Os before changing his mind and giving it Bromley.

Williams swung the free-kick into the area, forcing Alnwick to tip it behind for a corner.

The corner came to nothing and a quick break from the hosts saw Porter run from inside of his own half before drilling a powerful shot past Forecast from just inside of the area.

Williams' audacious attempt to chip Alnwick on the hour went wide as Bromley attempted to get themselves back into contention.

Tempers frayed when Aaron Rhule and Porter clashed just outside of the Bromley area.

Rhule was adjudged to have stamped on Porter in the challenge and was handed a straight card, while Porter picked up a yellow for the initial foul.

Regardless of whether the decision was correct or not, the fact remained Bromley would have to play the remaining 25 minutes a man short.

They made a triple change four minutes later as Orlando Smith, Bradley Goldberg and Warren McBean came on for Hill, Waldren and Araba.

Cureton hit the outside of the post on two minutes later as the Os looked to extend their lead further.

They did so in the 79th minute as substitute Moses Odubajo's low drive from just outside of the area cannoned back off the post before the loose ball fell to Jimmy Smith, who fired a shot into the net from 15 yards.

Williams placed another free-kick off target and behind and from the goal-kick which followed, Cureton had a shot that was cleared off the line by Rob Gillman.

Unfortunately there was to be no consolation goal at the other end, something which Bromley at the very least deserved for their spirited first half display.

But the 1,689 fans who made the short trip over the river were still proud of their side and applauded them off the field afterwards on what was still a day to remember for the Hayes Lane side, despite the result.
