KENNY Jackett is confident Jay Simpson is finally beginning to settle in at The Den after his wonder goal rescued a point against Brighton on Tuesday.

Simpson took a while to find his feet after joining from Hull City in a loan deal on transfer deadline day for his second spell at the club.

But the Millwall manager believes the recent signs have been much more promising with Tuesday’s 30-yard equaliser just a sign of things to come from the talented 22-year-old.

Jackett said: “I do feel Jay is settling in now and getting towards match fitness.

“It was a good contribution and performance from him at The Den on Tuesday night following up from doing well at Middlesbrough.

“I hope that is something Jay can bring to us and do on a consistent basis.

“He is certainly capable of it.

“Patrick Agyemang is similar to Jay Simpson in that he needs to get his match fitness and used to the way we work.

“He certainly brings a lot of experience to us.

“Josh McQuoid is pushing for a first team place now.

“I think he is OK but we need to speak to him over the next couple of days.”

Even though they have enjoyed two creditable draws against teams at the top end of the table, Millwall actually slipped back into the relegation zone after Tuesday’s game with Brighton.

But the Lions boss is upbeat his side are slowly but surely on the way back after a poor start to the campaign.

Jackett said: “We are hopeful we’ve changed our luck.

“We’ve dug in to be honest with you but we would like wins because they are the things which are going to make the difference.

“There has been the basis of performances which suggest we can win games in the future.

“We’ve just got a foothold in the game.

“I just feel that we need to score when we are on top. We had a very good 45 at Middlesbrough and a very good 45 in the first half against Brighton.

“In those times you have good chances and you have to score in those particular periods and take those opportunities.”
