CHRIS Powell has told his Charlton side not to get carried away at The Valley this weekend just because there will be a large crowd.

The Addicks look set to fill the stands for their League One game against Chesterfield on Saturday largely thanks to the Football for a Fiver initiative.

Despite expectations of a bumper crowd, Powell is not making an issue of it and wants his players to stay focused.

He said: “With the Football for a Fiver initiative, and the position we are in, a lot of people will come down to The Valley this weekend.

“I’m sure the players are looking forward to the big crowd.

“It’s a big moment for a few of them and I’ve told them what it’s like when it’s packed.

“But I won’t make a big issue of it because I want them to carry on in the same way.

“Whether we’ve got 2,000 or 22,000 they’ve still got to display what I ask of them and push themselves for each other.”

With the crowd urging the side on, Powell is concerned the team will get over excited and go out all guns blazing against Chesterfield.

However, the boss has warned his squad of the quality Chesterfield possess and wants the players to stay grounded.

“I don’t want them to feel like they have to do anything different from what we’ve been doing so far,” he said “We should just carry on in the same vein and not be too gun hoe just because we’ve got a large crowd.

“Chesterfield did ever so well last year.

“They look to play football, which is admirable because they’ve come in to a tough league but kept their principles.

“They’ve added Leon Clarke from Swindon who has done extremely well so far. We have to show them respect and look to stop their better players.

“We’ll look to get ourselves on the front foot from the first minute and be positive, increase the tempo and stick to our plan like we’ve done in our games so far.”
