DARTFORD manager Tony Burman insists he is not getting carried away with his side’s good form and is only focused on the next 10 games.

The Darts have enjoyed a great start to the season, sitting second in the Conference South table behind only Woking on goal difference after 10 games.

Tuesday night’s hard fought 2-1 win against Staines was their seventh of the season and Burman was delighted to get the three points and continue their fine form.

After going behind to an Adam Everitt penalty in the 18th minute the Darts showed good resolve by equalising from the spot thanks to Ryan Hayes in the 53rd minute before Tom Champion sealed the points in the 73rd minute.

Burman said: “I thought it was a decent game and I was pleased we got the three points in the end after coming in at half time 1-0 down.

“We’ve been consistent for the first 10 games and hopefully we’ll be consistent for the next 10 games and be in a similar position in the league as to what we are now.”

Much of Dartford’s success up front has been down to 23-year-old striker Charlie Sheringham, who has been in terrific form this season having netted 10 goals already.

However, Burman insists despite his performances, Sheringham is just one of many cogs in the Dartford machine.

The boss added: “He’s on fire and doing very well but he’s part of a team.

“Goal scorers always get the limelight but he would be the first to say that he’s playing in a good team at the moment.

“He’s important but then everyone else is important as well.”

With the former Crystal Palace striker red-hot there are worries the Darts will struggle to hold on to Sheringham, but Burman is confident of keeping him at the club.

He said: “Charlie’s under contract so I’ve got no problem keeping hold of him.

“If other clubs want to show their interest then they’ll have to speak to us but no one has at the moment.”

Attentions now turn to the derby game on Saturday as Dartford entertain Conference South newcomers Tonbridge Angels.

True to form, Burman is refusing to get carried away and insists it will be a testing encounter with their Kent rivals.

“That’ll be a tough game because it’s a local derby and they’ve had a couple if great results in their last two games,” he said.

“It will be tough but with the added incentive of bragging rights we’ll look forward to it and go in to it looking for three points and, like I say, be consistent like we have been.”

Both Paul Goodacre and Jon Wallis are struggling to be fit for Saturday, both being rated as 50/50 by Burman.
