KENNY Jackett feels his Millwall side’s failure to score in four straight league games is merely the final missing piece of a good Championship side.

The 0-0 draw in the early kick-off at home to rivals West Ham could be seen as another worrying failure to do any damage in the final third for the Lions.

However, Jackett is more pleased with the excellent defensive performance to keep a clean sheet of their own and is confident the goals will come once his new attacking signings settle in at SE16.

He said following the result: “We defended well and kept a very good clean sheet against a side who are free-scoring, so that’s an achievement.

“We were solid and competitive, but we needed to do better going forward particularly in the second half.

“When you play 4-2-3-1 as we ventured to do today, it gives you a little bit more of the ball and you get a foothold in the game which against some very good sides in this division you do need to do.

“But sometimes you can lack goals. Your final pass can be more inventive than the standard ones in the 4-4-2 so we do need to improve on that.

“We’ve a good solid base to work off and we kept a clean sheet. Going forward we have some new players who can bed in.”

Of those players, the Millwall chief added: “I was pleased with N’Guessan who came on and looked okay with Marquis for ten minutes at the end.

“We’ve got Feeney and Simpson, but it’s just about us finding the right equation going forward.”

The side’s last goals came in the 2-0 Carling Cup win at home to Morecambe, and Jackett insists the Lions will be doing everything they can to win their next round tie at Wolves in midweek.

“If I think that the team needs fresh energy, that will be the reason for any changes against Wolves”, he said.

“If anything, that will be the reason for us making changes rather than to give others a game.

“I want us to do well. I’ve been at Molineux as an assistant and I see it as a big game for us. Feeney and Simpson have played for previous clubs so they won’t be able to be involved but any changes will be to try to win the game.”
