CHARLTON still intend to use the Carling Cup clash with Reading as a chance to rotate their squad, according to manager Chris Powell.

Powell admitted after the curtain-raising victory at home to Bournemouth that the Royals tie, originally scheduled to happen the following Tuesday, would see a few changes to the starting XI.

The game was postponed due to the ongoing riots in London, but will now take place this coming Tuesday and Powell plans to approach it as before.

He said following the 2-2 draw with Scunthorpe: "I will be making changes on Tuesday, for sure.

"I'll look at training, I'll look at DVDs of the games and at other aspects of the game but for Reading I will definitely make changes.

"I have a squad here who have been training hard and who want to get out there and play for us but it hasn't been easy for them because of the way the boys have performed.

"It's been a tough period of three hard games in a week, and perhaps the players felt the after-effects of that but they're a fit bunch and I want to make sure that everyone who plays on Tuesday is ready to do it.

"Obviously I've got to look at how everyone recovers come tomorrow, and Monday morning I'll look at the squad.

"I'm sure Reading will also make changes, knowing Brian (McDermott), but it's a game that I want to win against a good team who were 90 minutes away from the Premier League.

"It'll be a good test for us and I want to make sure we're strong enough to compete and play our way."

Powell was not giving much away with regards to the exact changes he'll make, but hinted Bradley Pritchard had earned another run-out with his cameo performances in the friendly against Den Bosch and on opening day.

He explained: "Bradley was non-league this time last season so to go from the Blue Square to featuring in a League One matchday squad and leaving a good impression on everyone, if I was him I'd be very happy and he is.

"It's been a dream for him, but he's making the most of it. He has been training very hard and I'm sure we'll see more of him during the course of the season."

Powell continued: "People like Bradley and Andy Hughes and Jason Euell need some game time.

"We've also got some lads who haven't been involved at all, such as Cedric Evina, so Reading is a chance for me to rest a few lads and give others some games."
