CHARLTON chairman Michael Slater is confident there will be even more new signings before the campaign kicks off against Bournemouth on August 6.

The Addicks have already recruited heavily this summer but it looks like manager Chris Powell hasn’t finished wheeling and dealing just yet, with a potential new central defender next on his agenda.

When asked if fans could expect even more fresh faces, Mr Slater said: “I think so. Chris has identified two, maybe three.

“I think in midfield we are looking good.

“We could perhaps do with an extra centre back and I know there have been conversations this week which may lead to an announcement before the weekend.

“Like everybody else, we are trying to find a 20 goals a season striker.

“Clearly with Bradley Wright-Phillips we’ve got a striker who in this division you can confidently predict will get us 20 plus goals this season.

“If we could find another one like that - not necessarily the same style because Bradley is very much a poacher - like everybody else we are looking for a strong target man and we could probably do with a bit of pace.

“Finding the right players is never easy but Chris has a couple of people in mind.

“We would hope before the season starts to have bought in at least another two.”
