STRIKER Jason Euell has admitted he would be open for a return to The Valley if offered a contract this summer.

In an exclusive interview for News Shopper, free agent Euell confirmed he is still waiting to find a club for pre-season training and the prospect of a second spell in SE7 is one which would be given serious consideration.

“I’d definitely look at it,” Euell said.

“It’s a club very close to me and I would definitely look at what Chris Powell is offering.

“Not just on the playing side, as I know I can offer a lot off the pitch too, but with the side he’s trying to assemble with young players, I’m sure I could contribute to that as well.

“My options are open but if the phone call came, I’d definitely be open to offers.”

The striker believes the Addicks’ freefall over the past few years is something which can happen to any football club due to a number of reasons.

He said: “It just shows what football is like.

“No team has got any right to be in any division because of the stature of the club.

“Teams have proven that like Newcastle, Leeds, even Man City - football can turn around like that and it’s unfortunate it has happened to Charlton.

“But with new owners coming in and Chris Powell as manager, I’m sure now he’s going to get his squad together and get them in the right direction.”

In his time at Charlton, many supporters will remember the well publicised fall out between Euell and then manager Alan Curbishley.

However, Euell was keen to point out he didn’t want Addicks fans to think the disagreement had a major influence on why he was left out towards the end of his stay in SE7.

He admitted: “It was one of those things that got blown up. It’s probably something which happens in changing rooms up and down the country.

“It was an argument between the two of us after a game, but for me it went away and we moved on.

“But it surprised me because sometimes you expect things that happen in the changing room to stay there but it doesn’t always happen like that.

“Some people might look at it because I didn’t start playing as much towards the end of my time at Charlton, but it wasn’t because I was out for over three months with a dislocated shoulder and I lost my place.”

As he looks to find a new club, Euell is actively taking his coaching badges and is also a patron for charity Jigsaw4U.

He has been working with the charity on a nationwide schools scheme called Reaching Goals, which aims to inspire young people who may be at risk of leaving education early or because of a lack of academic support.

“It’s a mentoring program going around schools and supporting kids making decisions they can make in life,” said Euell.

"I’m finding out their inspirations and role models in life.

“I want to give them the belief no matter where you’re from or what you do, there’s always an opportunity to make something of yourself.”

Jason Euell was speaking to News Shopper while working for Jigsaw4U at Gorringe Park Primary School in Mitcham, Surrey.
