CHARLTON are poised to see off late interest from two rivals to sign striker Paul Hayes from Preston.

News Shopper understands both Scunthorpe and Doncaster made last minute efforts to scupper the Addicks’ hopes of signing the 27-year-old.

Hayes is a former Scunthorpe player and his old side were keen to get him back for a third spell.

Doncaster could have offered Hayes Championship football but they look set to miss out to Charlton, who are extremely confident of completing the deal once the player returns from holiday.
