JOHN Sullivan remains a Charlton target, despite the addition of rookie keeper Nick Pope earlier this week.

Sullivan spent the latter part of last season at The Valley on loan from Millwall and is a free agent after the Lions opted not to extend his stay at The Den.

Pope joined the Addicks from non-league Bury Town but manager Chris Powell sees him as one for the future as he bids to convince Sullivan to come back to SE7.

The Charlton boss said: “Nick Pope is a development keeper and is nowhere near ready to play professional football yet.

“I’m hopeful we can do something with John Sullivan.

“He is away at the moment and we did speak to him and his representatives, so we are quietly hopeful we will be able to come to a deal with John.

“John came in last year on loan and did particularly well and now he has been released by Millwall.

“Young Nick came to our attention because we’ve got people looking at all levels of football.

“He spent a week or two with Ben Roberts and we just feel we would like to have a good stable of keepers, including ones who have played in the league which we’ve already got in Rob Elliot and hopefully John Sullivan.

“We’ve signed Conor Gough and now we’ve got Nick Pope as well.”

Pope was not the only signing this week following the arrival of midfielders Danny Hollands from Bournemouth and Bradley Pritchard from non-league Hayes & Yeading.

“It is an area I’ve always wanted to strengthen and address,” Powell explained.

“Danny came up on the radar and I’ve known about him for the last couple of years but with the added bonus of him coming towards the end of his contract, I just felt it was right to move for him.

“He is a good all-round midfielder who can pass and tackle.

“Danny knows League One and is a good user of the ball, so I thought it would be a good move to try and get him in and thankfully we got a deal done.”

The manager added: “Bradley Pritchard has never played professional football and we just thought he was worth the chance.

“He made a lot of headlines last year in the Conference by scoring 15 goals from midfield.

“We watched him a number of times and then brought him in for a week to train with us and he did very well.

“He played in a game and we felt we could give him a chance to see if he could make it in the pro ranks for a season and now it is down to him to get used to the rigours of professional football with daily training and playing under pressure.

“This will obviously be a different level from what he has been used to, but we are sure he has the right attitude to continue his learning and we feel he has a chance.

“I’m sure our fans will be thinking we want to get players to this club but I am building a squad here to compete and these two midfielders are the first of hopefully a number of players we will be bringing in over the close season.”
