CHRISTIAN Dailly is close to agreeing a new contract to stay at Charlton next season.

The veteran defender has yet to put pen to paper on the new contract but manager Chris Powell is quietly confident the club captain will do so.

“We’ve spoken to Christian and he is weighing up the deal,” the Valley chief said.

“I feel he is a leader of men, he is a good character and I would like him to agree to stay.

“I’m hopeful that can get done as soon as possible.”

One defender who won’t be back in the ranks next season is Yassin Moutaouakil after Powell ruled out a return for the Frenchman to SE7, despite the player being keen to come back.

“I don’t think so looking at our squad and what I’m trying to do,” the boss added.

“Yassin has been here before but at the present time it isn’t something I’m looking to do.”

And Powell also downplayed rumours suggesting he was considering signing striker Adam Le Fondre from Rotherham.

“He is a good player and a goal scorer but we’ve already got one of those in Bradley Wright-Phillips,” Powell said.

“I feel I’ve definitely already got the right man, so I don’t think Adam is someone I would look to bring to the club.”
