CHRIS Powell admits he still doesn’t know if midfielders Jose Semedo and Therry Racon will stay at The Valley.

The pair are free agents and although the Charlton manager would like to keep them in SE7, he accepts the decision is now out of his hands.

Powell explained: “Jose is in a strong position because like a lot of players who let their contracts run out, they are free to talk to who they want with the Bosman ruling.

“This is what he and his agent are doing at the moment, so we are quite powerless really because he is free to do as he chooses.

“I fully understand it because this is the position players are in these days. We are governed really by him.

“He is a very good player and a popular player with us, but until he says ‘I want to do A, B or C’ we are powerless to do anything at the moment with him.

“Of course we would love to keep him. “He is a good player, loves Charlton, always gives his all, not only in games but in training every day, but as I said I’m not in a position of strength here.

“We spoke to him but it never really got to the stage where we were in the driving seat. We had tentative talks but it is entirely up to Jose and his advisors as to his next move.”

The manager added: “Therry Racon’s situation is exactly the same as Jose Semedo’s.

“I’m kicking on anyway and can’t really wait and wait for their decisions because they could choose on the first day of pre-season they are going to join another team.

“We are in regular dialogue with their agents and we will see where it leads.

“Therry is playing in the Gold Cup at the minute, which has complicated things again because he is still playing over the summer.”
