THERE was a huge turnout for Sunday’s annual Crystal Palace triathlon at the National Sports Centre and Crystal Palace Park.
More than 500 adult and 180 junior competitors took part despite the early morning rain and strong winds and it was Tim Male from Thames Turbo who won the men’s competition in a time of 1:04:07.
Male set a new course record in the bike split (32:10), as did Bradley Hales of Optima Racing Team in the swim (8:49).
Parys Edwards (Ful-on-Tri) was the first woman to cross the line in 1:11:01, while the winning Veterans (40+) were Nick Malyn (Ful-on-Tri) and Ruth Hutton (Thames Turbo).
The winning SuperVets (50+) were Richard Stanhope (Thames Turbo) and Sandra Blenksop (Kingfisher Triathletes).
Winners of the junior races were: Youth – Jack Boericke (Optima Racing Team) and Armanni Antoine-Chagar (Swim For Tri); TriStar Three – Henry Dawson (Thames Turbo) and Evangeline Foster; TriStar Two – Anthony Anderson and Jemima Walker (East Essex Tri Club); TriStar One – Zak Wort and Freya Thomson (Thames Turbo); TriStart – Henri Wright and Tallulah Penney (Thames Turbo).
