CHARLTON boss Chris Powell was a very satisfied man after his side secured a comfortable 3-1 win against Rochdale yesterday(April 25).

On a hot Easter Monday, the Addicks looked the brighter of the two sides, as Therry Racon opened the scoring in the first half, before Dean Parrett and Nathan Eccleston sealed the three points in the second period.

"I'm very happy and our fans will go home happy." said Powell.

"It's an Easter from which we've got four points when I feel we should have had six. But, I thought we ran out worthy winners in the end.

"It's a tall ask to play two games in 48 hours but I kept faith with the back four, freshened it up in midfield and up top, and it worked for us.

"Rochdale play decent football and they've got a bright manager.

"I knew it would be a tough game for us but we didn't really have much to play for and it can be tough. I just asked the players to display their qualities, show some pride and to dig deep, and they all did that to a man."

Powell admitted Parrett's goal was extremely important straight after Rochdale's equaliser, but all three goals were of high quality.

"Therry's goal came in off the left and he's a two-footed player.

"Dean's was an important goal to score straight away after the equaliser.

"Then Paul Benson's cross for Nathan's goal was excellent.

"Obviously, I'm not pleased with their equaliser, but looking at it overall, it has been a decent Easter for us."

Eccleston made one goal at Bristol Rovers on Saturday and took his chance in front of goal when pushed up from the wing midway through the second half of Sunday’s game.

"We started him up top on Saturday and he was lively and created a goal for Benno, who returned that in kind today." added the boss.

"He's a lively player, he's still young and he's still learning the game. He can play wide and he took his goal very well.

"It doesn't matter what size you are - if the delivery is good you can always get your goal."

Bradley Wright-Phillips was named captain in the absence of Christian Dailly and Jose Semedo, and Powell believed it was an easy decision for him to make.

"We lost Christian and Jose to suspension, so I had a decision to make," said Powell.

"I plumped for Brad - he's popular on and off the field and he's a good character in the dressing room.

"He works hard, he's a bubbly character and I wanted him to lead by example."
