CHARLTON fan and freelance journalist MATT FRICKER is News Shopper online’s new Addicks columnist.

Although disappointed with his side’s latest defeat against Huddersfield, an improved display at least gives Charlton fans something to look forward to next season as Chris Powell imposes his own brand of football in SE7.

CHRIS Powell’s style of football is coming through, but we’re still not winning.

Leaving The Valley on Saturday evening I, like many Charlton fans, wasn’t angered by the performance of the Addicks but more hurt by the way we had been defeated.

I don’t think we deserved to lose at all but sadly our luck wasn’t in.

Many questions can be debated about Saturday’s game, in my opinion there should have been at least two penalties.

I believe Paul Benson was pole axed inside the box off the ball and then 10 minutes or so later one of our defenders took out the Huddersfield striker in the box.

This said, football is built for debate and even if we introduce video technology to the game, there will still be debate.

Currently the big question is: How do Charlton turn their fortunes around?

Powell seems to finally have the team playing his style of football, which is a vast departure from Phil Parkinson’s style of play.

The problem with this, however, is we have a squad Parky built to play his style of football.

While some of our players have been able to adapt, others clearly haven’t and, especially for fans who use Twitter, rumours of discontent among some of the squad have been stoked by some of the tweets sent by players. Couple this with the traditional end of season concerns players have about their contracts and their confidence gets shot and the fans find their beloved team on an awful run.

Charlton are starting to play Powell’s style of football, which, as shown against Huddersfield and Southampton in recent weeks, is good enough to defeat any team in this league.

Even though we lost to the Terriers and drew with the Saints at The Valley, we played some fantastic football but for some reason we just couldn’t come away from either fixture with all three points.

I am, however, growing with confidence towards next season after every game Charlton Athletic play, as I truly believe we have what it takes to win League One, even if next season sees Sheffield United replace Southampton and Brighton replaced by arch rivals Crystal Palace.

I still think we will be stronger.

Keep the faith. Come on you Addicks.
