CHARLTON have secured the signing of former Manchester United midfielder Michael Stewart on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The free agent has been training with the Addicks and is available for this weekend’s trip to Bournemouth.

Manager Chris Powell was delighted to land someone of Stewart’s experience and believes he will be a good addition to the side.

“I just felt with him being unattached, that was attractive within itself,” said Powell.

“He’s come to bolster the squad.

“I do have the possibility of maybe bringing one other in, but I think we’re generally covered all over.

“He’s signed and he’s here until the end of the season.”

Powell believes the former Scottish international can create and bring steel, while adding competition for places in the engine room.

“He’s a bit of everything really,” revealed the Addicks chief.

“I just feel sometimes that Jose Semedo has played every game.

“We don’t have a player of that ilk really and Michael can definitely do that.

“But he’s quite creative as well.

“I just felt we needed that stronger midfielder and he comes into that category.”
