STEVE Morison was delighted to end his goal drought by netting the opener in the Lions’ 2-0 home win over league leaders QPR last night.

The striker had gone six games without a goal before the visit of Millwall’s London rivals but took his second half chance in style, blasting past Hoops keeper Paddy Kenny from the edge of the box on 62 minutes.

Wales international Morison could have had a second 10 minutes later but was hauled down in the box by former Lion Danny Shittu, who saw red for his challenge, before Liam Trotter converted the resulting penalty.

Morison said: “It was a relief to score tonight. It’s not nice going through a spell when you’re not scoring as a striker.

“The team and myself have been going through a bit of a bad patch recently, so it was nice to bounce back with this result.

“But this game was about more than just the result – the performance was a big plus for us too.

“Apart from a few moments in the first half, there only ever looked like there would be one winner and in the end we were disappointed we only won 2-0.”

The result leaves Millwall nine points off the play-off places with 10 games left to play.

Morison concedes it will be tough for the Lions to make the cut but believes the result against QPR will give his side the confidence boost they need to go on an end of season winning streak.

“We are nine points off the play-offs but all we can do is keep on winning games,” he said.

“If we don’t make the play-offs, we want to be in the top 10.

“We’ve got some massive games coming up against Burnley, Cardiff and Swansea – games it is easy to get motivated for.

“We’ve more than matched the best team in the league but this game is gone now and we need to look forward and finish on a high.”
