MANAGER Kenny Jackett was disappointed with the result but couldn't fault the lack of effort from his Millwall players after Saturday’s narrow 1-0 defeat at Watford.

Millwall had a string of chances to secure three points but paid for their wastefulness when Watford scored the only goal of the game through top marksman Danny Graham.

“I’m disappointed with the result, perhaps not the performance,” said Jackett.

“In the first-half Watford started strongly and had us under pressure but we had all the clear-cut chances.

“There was Danny Schofield’s volley, Liam Trotter put one just wide and one hit the bar, so perhaps from that period the chances came to us and obviously we’re looking to finish them.

“We played with spirit and I felt in lots of departments we more than matched Watford and kept the pressure on them and ultimately I’m frustrated with the result.”

Millwall could have at least been two goals to the good by half-time but Watford keeper Scott Loach pulled off some fine saves to deny the Lions.

But Jackett believes his side are still learning about the league and hopes to push other established Championship sides in the run-in.

“We have to keep going but there were some good saves today”, added the boss.

“Goals are important but in terms of us, if you look at something from that performance, it’s about putting away what we created.

“We stood toe-to-toe with Watford who are an established Championship side and that’s been our aim all the way through. We have to look at clubs like this to work hard and sustain a good level in the Championship - we matched them today and are disappointed to lose.”

Meanwhile, Millwall are on the brink of adding to their squad again by drafting in Andros Townsend on loan from Spurs until the end of the season.

The highly-rated 19-year-old is available for selection to face leaders QPR tomorrow at The Den once he finalises the move later today.
