KENNY Jackett is backing Steve Morison to end his goal drought soon after the striker drew another blank in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Watford.

Morison has not found the target since the 2-0 win over Barnsley in late January and squandered two good chances to score in the second period at Vicarage Road.

However, Jackett played down any confidence issues with the striker.

The manager insisted: “The good thing is, he is getting chances.

“He and all of us would like them to go in but that’s the nature of being a centre-forward.

“You take the plaudits when you score and his opportunities were there.

“If he keeps getting in there, he will score.

“He has scored consistently since being with us.”

One player left out of the squad was winger Hameur Bouazza, who went down in training on Friday, but his replacement Danny Schofield came back into the side and put in a good shift.

Jackett said: “He felt his knee on Friday. He trained fine all week and the morning before the game there was some swelling on it.

“He saw the physio who pulled him straight out of the game.

“But on the plus side, I thought Danny Schofield came back into the side after a break and played very well.

“Obviously I hoped Hameur could play and come back to his old club.

“A couple of days and that should settle down but he has been down to the specialist straight away to scan it and we hope there is no internal damage.

“I’m hoping it’s just a bit of fluid which will pass away because he has looked lively player and a good addition for us.”
