ADDICKS boss Chris Powell admits there are no guarantees he will be able to make any loan signings before Saturday’s Valley encounter with Tranmere.

The manager has already gone on record to say he wanted two fresh faces before this weekend’s meeting with the Wirral outfit as Charlton bid to put the brakes on an alarming slump which has seen them lose four games on the spin.

Powell has until noon on Saturday to get the deals done if the new signings are to feature against Rovers but added he would ideally like to have them in the building before then, also hinting the wait may now go on into next week.

He said: “It is an ongoing process and I would love to get players in before Saturday.

“It is touch and go really. We are hopeful we can get that done as soon as we can.

“They can sign up to three hours before kick-off under the emergency loan, which would actually be midday on Saturday but really you want a player if he is coming in to be with you the day before.

“But of course if it goes on until then, then it does.

“I have a squad here who are a bit light because of injuries but I still feel that might just give us a bit of a boost if we can do it.

“But if not, then we will do it next week.”

Powell was also reticent when asked if any new signings would go straight into the starting line-up.

He responded: “Obviously I’ve got to assess one or two things if they are fit and ready to come in.

“I’m sure they will be but then it is just about the balance.

“Do you put them on the bench because they are not used to everyone or do you put them straight in?

“That is a decision I would have to make once they are here but if I’m trying to bring loan players here, I want them to enhance us and make us a better team whenever they play.

“If they come and play and do well, then they stay in.”
