KENNY Jackett says he hasn't given up all hope yet of luring Jason Puncheon back to The Den.

Puncheon returned to Southampton this week following the end of his loan spell at The Den, which culminated in a hat-trick in last week's 3-0 derby demolition of Crystal Palace.

Jackett has already had a transfer bid turned down for the 24-year-old and although he accepts the Saints are right to look after their own interests, it doesn't mean the Lions boss is prepared to let the matter drop.

He said: "Jason scored five goals in seven games, so that is obviously Southampton's perogative. He is their player, he is under contract to them and they are I'm sure they are just trying to do the best for their club.

"We've asked the question and that is the answer.

"Whether it is right or wrong, that is the way it is so we do accept it because he was loaned to us and he is a Southampton player."

Jackett added: "We are keen on Jason.

"We will see what comes about in terms of who else is out there but is Jason still a target?

"Yes he is."
