PHIL Parkinson bemoaned his Charlton side’s lack of desire after they surrended a 1-0 lead to lose 4-2 at home to Swindon on Monday.

Parky’s troops have struggled to impress at home as of late but managed to stay solid for much of the first half before Johnnie Jackson’s deflected effort gave them the lead.

However, it was all downhill from there as Matt Ritchie equalised shortly before half-time and a second half capitulation resulted in the Addicks being 4-1 down at one stage.

Following the final whistle, a despondent Parky explained: “The equaliser knocked us and I could feel the lads were thrown at half-time.

“We said we can't let that happen, we've got to go again.

“It is responding and making sure we go again and I have to say the game was one where Swindon showed more desire in our box to get on the end of things.

“When the ball went in their box there was too many free headers by defenders “I didn't see enough desire for us to score a goal at the other end and ultimately the game is won or lost in both boxes.”

Parkinson made comparisons to the last time his side shipped four goals on home turf, back in October against Brighton, and underlined the importance of using the result to bounce back.

“If you go back to the Brighton game, we rolled our sleeves up and went back to the basics,” he said.

“We got a good run of clean sheets after the Carlisle game by concentrating on defending and working hard as a team.

“I just think maybe we started to believe that we are a good side and have got a divine right to be in that top six.

“Well we haven't. We are a decent side, we are a good side when we work hard for each other and we do the basics well but we certainly went away from that tonight.”
