A NUMBER of new building projects are set to dramatically increase the sports facilities available to pupils at Ravens Wood School.

Construction has started on a 3G all-weather pitch, which promises to facilitate year–round match opportunities for students.

Ravens Wood is to benefit from another development in resources as a new changing room space will enable 50 per cent more students to enjoy the school’s sporting facilities.

Rugby, football, basketball, cricket and athletics are prioritised at Ravens Wood, where more than 30 different sporting activities are available for students weekly.

There is intense competition borough-wide to gain a place in the school’s senior rugby and football academies, which have affiliations with Saracens Rugby Club and Millwall, who provide sponsorship and weekly training.

Team successes are frequent at Ravens Wood.

The last academic year saw two rugby teams become south of England rugby league champions, the Year 9 cricket team win the Kent Cup and the school’s Year 7 football team reach the last 16 in the national cup.

There are currently 700 students involved in extra curricular sport at Ravens Wood and this is set to increase in this new academic year.

The school’s investment into state of the art building projects has been in excess of £350,000, equipping them well for continued success in the future.

Ravens Wood currently has seven sportsmen competing at an international level.

Jack Doyle represented GB in the world junior gymnastics championships, while Sam Walker (Year 10) was crowned the GB U66kg boxing champion.

With a wealth of talent and new resources, the school’s ambition to be at the pinnacle of UK school sport may soon be realised.
