PHIL Parkinson believes striker Tamer Tuna has what it takes to break into the Charlton side.

The promising 18-year-old scored in Tuesday’s friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge and Parkinson believes time out on loan holds the key to the Turkey U19 international’s future.

He said: “I was pleased for Tamer Tuna to score, it's good for him and his confidence.

“We’re trying to get him out on loan into men’s football because he needs that competitive edge. We need to get him at a level where he’s going to play, progress as a player and score goals whatever the level.

“Then hopefully we can push him up the levels and one day he will be ready to compete in our first team.”

Parkinson is also keen to loan out some of Charlton’s promising youngsters to provide the competitive edge needed for their development.

He said: “Me and Mark Kinsella have been working on loans with one or two of our youngsters.

“We want to get them into men’s football because we’re not in a competitive reserve team league and I feel they need that competitive edge in a game where there’s three points at stake and something on the game. We will try and get those players out on loan.”

Parkinson also revealed that although he is keen to loan out younger players, they are still very much in his first team plans.

He added: “When you’re a player and you can’t get in the team and there’s no game for you, your motivation can soon drop off.

“We’d like to get those youngsters out into men’s football.

“At their age you can do that on a youth loan, so they can be called back on 24 hours notice if needed.”
