BALLY Smart will not be joining Charlton after failing to impress in his trial at the club.

The midfielder joined the Addicks on a non-contract basis in August and despite featuring in Charlton's Carling Cup first round defeat to Shrewsbury in August and several reserve games, Smart has moved on to try and win a deal abroad.

Phil Parkinson said: “Bally has left us. We weren’t in a position to make him an offer long-term.

“His agent spoke to me about an option he had in Portugal, so the last I heard is he has gone to try his luck there.”
