DESPITE seeing his side fail to convert a host of chances, manager Kenny Jackett was happy with Millwall’s display in their 0-0 draw at home to Reading.

In an exciting and open contest, both sides should have found the net with Steve Morison missing two one-on-one opportunities for the hosts before former Lion loanee Jem Karacan had a fierce drive tipped onto the post by the excellent Millwall keeper David Forde.

“The game was of a very good standard and both sides looked capable of scoring on the night,” said Jackett, whose side moved up to third spot in the Championship.

“We went for the win and, barring a finish, there wasn’t a lot wrong with our side tonight. We played well.

“In the second half especially we set a good tempo, had most of the ball and were camped in their half looking for that goal and the breakthrough, which unfortunately didn’t come.

“I thought we had more of the pressure but Reading have some very good players and some good forwards and they looked dangerous on the break and could have scored themselves, so in the end I guess we are happy with a point.”

The Royals became the first side to take a point from The Den this season after Millwall’s impressive start to the campaign.

However, for Jackett seeing his team more than hold their own against established Championship sides such as Reading, proves how far his side have come since he took charge of the club.

“I am pleased with my team,” he said.

“Over the last few years we have been trying to compete with teams like Reading and stand toe-to-toe with them.

“That is what we have to do this season and we did that tonight.

“We’ve done fine so far this season. We’ve set ourselves standards and worked hard.

“Now we need to make sure we retain our hunger and, if we can, provide some quality to finish off some good moves we are making.”
