PHIL Parkinson believes his Charlton side will only get better after their narrow win over Notts County made it 10 points from six games for the Addicks.

The three points at The Valley on Saturday ended a run of two straight league defeats on the road for Parky’s troops and kept them among the early pace setters in League One.

And despite some criticisms regarding the quality of Reds’ performances, Parkinson is confident the team will improve over time.

He said: “I looked at last week’s performance and obviously I was livid at the end of the game.

“But as the week’s worn on I watched the tape and whatever level you’re at if you put a team together it’s going to take time.

“All we can do is keep working on the training ground but wins breed confidence and today was a great win for us, ten points from six games is a great start for us and one I’m very pleased with.

“They’re all good players that we’ve brought in and they’re relishing the challenge but it is different.

“There are different expectation levels at Charlton but in the main, I’m pleased with our start to the season and we’ll keep improving.”

Parky also appreciates the importance of a victory in front of a home crowd after two consecutive defeats put paid to any hopes of the Addicks replicating their superb start to life in League One last season.

He added: “Last week we should have come away with a 0-0 and that would have been a good result but we didn’t and when you lose two games it puts a bit of pressure on you.

“Coming into this game that was the case but today was a good result for us and there was a nice feeling of confidence in the dressing room for when we get out on the pitch next week.”
