DARTFORD emphatically sealed promotion as Ryman Premier League champions at the weekend, beating Kingstonian 6-2 in a game described by manager Tony Burman as “the icing on the cake”.

Burman appeared delighted with the performance of his side during Saturday's match and throughout the 36 games which they have played so far, winning the league with six matches to play.

The Dartford boss refused to speculate about the possible changing face of his side going into the Blue Square South next season and seems satisfied to let his players enjoy their moment.

He told News Shopper: "I thought it was a very good performance and a great result.

“We thoroughly deserved to win the game and to win the championship as early as we have done is a fantastic achievement.

“All the credit has got to go to the players for reaching their target.

“The performance was similar to the way we played at the very start of the season and to play in such a nice ground in such good company was the icing on the cake.”

Asked about his own managerial highlight from a hugely successful season, Burman said: “The start of the season will take some beating and staying unbeaten in the way in which we did was something else.

“The weather has messed things up for most teams this season but on the whole it's been enjoyable and very, very good for us.

“After our first few games I always felt we were the best squad in the division and to be at the top from the second game has just proved it as far as I'm concerned.”

The party got underway on the final whistle of Saturday’s Kingstonian win but the manager knows he will face some tough choices over the summer if his side are to compete in the Blue Square South.

Burman said: “Over the next few weeks, I'll let them all take in the celebrations and we're all going to be involved in that.

“When the time is ready to concentrate on things, then that will take care of itself.

“The new season has to start and the old one has to go.

“You have to make some decisions regarding the squad and about improving it but that’s just part and parcel of football.

“We're going into a very good league with some fantastic teams and this is what we've got to go and get used to.

“You have to look and see if your squad is strong enough and this is what we'll endeavour to do.”
