CHARLTON manager Phil Parkinson believes his side have nothing to fear going into Saturday’s clash at Southampton.

The Saints boast one of the best home records in the division and goals are hardly in short supply either with the likes of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Lee Barnard in their ranks.

However, the Addicks go into the game with confidence high on the back of two straight league victories and are now only two points off the automatic promotion places.

And despite Southampton’s riches, Parky claimed opposite number Alan Pardew would be more than envious of some of Charlton’s players.

The boss said: “Going to Southampton is going to be difficult. They are a decent side but equally we are on a very good run of form ourselves.

“We’ve gone to Huddersfield and drawn, we’ve gone to MK Dons and won and on paper those two games, particularly the Huddersfield one with one of the best home records in the division, are difficult games.

“If we go to Southampton with the same approach I think we will give ourselves a good chance.”

Parkinson added: “Rickie Lambert has played particularly well and we will be talking best about how to deal with him.

“It is about making our lads aware of their strengths and weaknesses like we do with every team.

“But one thing we don’t want to do is play on the edge of our own box and invite pressure.

“They’ve got some good players but so have we.

“We’ve got some excellent players and there are many players in our team I’m sure Southampton would love to have in their ranks.

“We aren’t going to get too concerned about their players.

“Obviously we respect them and will do our best to stop them but equally we’ve got good players ourselves who can create things.”

Skipper Nicky Bailey made a strong case for a place in the starting XI after impressing when coming off the bench in Monday’s 1-0 win over Carlisle, a point his boss accepted.

Parkinson said: “Nicky Bailey is fully fit. I’d say we left him on the bench simply because he hadn’t trained a great deal and in the 10 days he had been out he only had one very light training session.

“The team had played well so we just let him come off the bench and then give him an extra couple of days to make sure his ankle is right but he seems fine.

“There are no fresh injury problems from Monday.

“Deon Burton is now getting closer and I would say he is 50-50.

“We left him out on Monday hoping he would be back for this one but he is still not back in full training.

“He has done part of the training today but it is just a case of assessing him in the morning.”
