CHARLTON penalty hero Nicky Forster revealed his three personal goals between now and the summer after netting the winner against MK Dons on Saturday.

The 36-year-old, at The Valley until the end of the season from Brighton, scored his first for the club from the penalty spot at stadium:mk as the Addicks battled to a much-needed 1-0 victory.

And Forster told of his three aims for the remainder of this campaign: to at least score the three goals required to reach 20 for the season, to assist the Reds back into the Championship without needing the playoffs if possible, and to secure employment for 2010/11.

He explained: “If any striker can hit the 20-goal mark by the end of the season then that’s good going so I need another three from seven and it’s something I’m going to try and do.

“At the moment I’m here until the end of the season and it takes in May should Charlton get into the playoffs.

“My situation is I’m looking for employment next season. I still think I’ve got some time left in me in the game and I’m looking for an employer like many others at the end of the season I’m sure.

“Nowadays with the warm-downs and the diet and massage and things like that, it’s easier to go beyond that golden age of 35.

“The clock does start ticking when you hit that 35 but as long as I stay mobile and enthusiastic on and off the training ground then that gives you that buzz to want to succeed still.”

On hoping to fire the Addicks to promotion, Forster added: “There’s still things that I’d like to do, first and foremost here at Charlton – I’ve been promoted a few times before and they’re fantastic.

“However you go up it doesn’t matter though it’s certainly easier doing it without the playoffs and less of a lottery, so if we can do it without them it’d be nice.

For a new arrival with little knowledge of the style of play and training in SE7, it can take a while to adjust – but Nicky has already seemed to struck up a good partnership with fellow frontman Dave Mooney, and Forster had nothing but praise for the Irishman’s tireless efforts.

He said: “I’m just starting to get to know the individual players here, such as the midfield boys and how they’re going to pass the ball forward, and Mooney likes to tuck into those deeper areas.

“It’s easy to overlook how important Dave really is – he might not have got his return in goals but his work for the team is tireless, sometimes to the detriment of his own scoring chances.”

And while it was an injury to top scorer Deon Buton that led to Phil Parkinson acquiring the services of Forster, the 17-goal man hopes to play alongside the Jamaican international, adding: “I hope that Deon comes back.

“He’s been the main striker this season and I’m certainly not going to tread on his toes as he’s obviously going to come back and hopefully play a big part in the end of the season.

“I just hope that I can play some games and score some goals and play my part. I’m fully committed to it now and I’m certainly not trying to step over into Deon’s place.”
