DARREN Bent was rewarded for a sensational season by being named as the club's player of the year by the supporters' club. The Addicks top scorer beat reliable left-back Chris Powell into second place. The young player of the year, as chosen by the club's management team, was goalkeeper Darren Randolph, who made one first-team squad appearance and also featured on loan for Conference winners Accrington Stanley.

LUKE Young's race to regain fitness ahead of this summer's World Cup was assessed last week when England assistant coach Tord Grip and the national team doctor visited the training ground. Wayne Diesel, head of the club's medical department said: "They appeared to be quite happy with the progress Luke is making. He also returned to see a specialist later on the same day and he's now been given the go ahead to start conditioning work and light training." Young suffered an ankle injury in early April, and is trying to prove his fitness before Eriksson announces a squad of 27 on May 8 and then his 23-man party to FIFA seven days later.

CHARLTON'S reserves beat Crystal Palace 2-1 last midweek to clinch fourth place in the final table. Myles Weston and James Walker scored either side of half-time two days after a 0-0 draw with Portsmouth.
