PHIL Parkinson has flatly denied internet rumours suggesting teenager Jonjo Shelvey is not getting a game because he has already been sold.

A host of Premiership sides are known to be keen on the highly-rated midfield ace and his recent absence from the team has fuelled speculation a deal may already have been done which will see the player move on in the summer.

However, Parkinson was keen to put the record straight when asked today and also hinted at an imminent recall for his most valuable asset.

Dismissing the rumour as being “absolutely not true”, the Valley chief added: “He just hasn’t been in the starting XI.

“When Jonjo was playing, we were playing a 4-5-1 system at the start of the season with him in that advanced midfield role.

“David Mooney has come in and has forged a good partnership with Deon Burton.

“Obviously Deon is out at the moment, it is just getting the team with the right balance for every game.”

Parkinson added: “Jonjo will come again I’m sure at some point this season but there was a time when everyone was saying he needs a rest.

“Now he is out of the team everyone is saying bring him back, which is fair enough because he is a very good player.

“At the moment he is just fighting for his place, there is no hidden agenda that he has been sold or anything like that.

“He is just waiting for his chance and when he gets it, I’m sure he will take it.”

However, the manager refused to be drawn when asked if Shelvey would still be in SE7 next season.

“I’m not even looking into the summer,” he said.

“Nobody has said anything to me. We haven’t had any phone calls from any club regarding Jonjo Shelvey.”
