CHARLTON have beaten off competition from rivals Millwall to land veteran keeper Tony Warner on loan deadline day.

Reports elsewhere suggested the 35-year-old former Millwall stopper was about to link up again with the Lions today after recently being released by Hull.

However, Charlton boss Phil Parkinson has stepped in at the last moment to scupper the deal after losing Rob Elliot for up to a month through injury and Warner is expected to be confirmed as an Addicks player later today.

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett told News Shopper: “Tony will not be joining Millwall because Charlton have come in and made him a better offer.”

The Den chief also confirmed striker Lewis Grabban was on his way to Brentford on a temporary basis.

“Lewis is going there because he hasn’t been involved with our first team for a couple of weeks now and this is a good opportunity for him to get some games,” added Jackett.

“We will assess how he is getting on there but essentially I am happy with the strikers I’ve got here for the run in between now and the end of the season.

“Aside from Lewis leaving, I don’t expect there to be any other comings or goings today.”

Millwall have the perfect opportunity to close the gap on second-placed Leeds when they host basement side Stockport on Saturday after Monday’s stunning 2-0 win at Elland Road.

However, the manager is warning his side against complacency ahead of this weekend’s game.

He added: “We’ve had two wonderful results and performances against two of the sides around us, Charlton and Leeds.

“Those games are gone now and we’ve got to make sure we keep our focus on the next one, which is Stockport at home.

“People may say this is a potential banana skin and they could be right unless we maintain our own high standards.

“Although Stockport are bottom, they’ve actually been playing a lot better in games than their form would suggest.

“They’ve been knocking on the door without actually getting a result.”

Millwall have no fresh injury problems for the Stockport game and will name an unchanged squad from the one involved at Elland Road.
