A YOUNG fighter from Bromley & Downham ABC maintained his 100 per cent record by claiming the class two national schoolboy U66kg title at Brentwood Leisure Centre.

Sam Walker, 13, forced the 3rd round stoppage of Jordan Howard (Benny ABC) to take one of the most prestigious crowns up for grabs as an amateur boxer.

The Ravens Wood pupil had looked impressive against Darren Townley (City of Gloucester ABC) in the semi-finals a fortnight earlier, winning that contest 8-1 by computer scoring.

As a result of his recent triumph, Walker has been selected to represent England in the tri-nations contest against Scotland and Wales.

It isn’t the only success story for Bromley & Downham ABC as club mates George Jupp and Ashley Surin fought in the senior and junior ABAs respectively.

Jupp got a walkover in the featherweight class (54 to 57kg) and will now take part in the London semis and finals at York Hall.

He is in confident mood going into the Bethnal Green event after six wins out of seven this season, the best of which came on his England debut against Scotland.

Surin, 16, was forced to do things the hard way to win the U70kg class two south east London junior ABA title.

With three in the weight group, Surin was drawn to face Alex McKay (Eltham ABC), leaving Chris Tsiopani (Honor Oak ABC) waiting to meet the winner later the same night in the final.

Surin took a points win after a strong last round and then had to step back into the ring at Fairfield Halls two hours later for the final.

Clearly on a high from the first victory, Surin forced the pace with Tsiopani, taking an eight count in the second round.

After some fierce body shots were landed in the third, the referee called a halt to the bout and declared the Surin as the winner.
