Istead in action at trio of events


IT was a busy weekend over the country and on the road for Istead & Ifield Harriers.

Eight runners were at Swanley Park on Sunday in the last cross country race of the winter in the Kent fitness league.

Running in glorious sunny conditions, Simon Parrin finished off an excellent season with his second successive top 10 place in a field of more than 250 runners.

Istead’s team ended the season in seventh place out of 18 Kent clubs.

Results: Simon Parrin 10th; Andrew Archer 30th; Steve Lelliot 81st; Angela Hames 119th; John Gillis 135th; Ian Creasy 155th; Steve Barnsley 174th; Jackie King 188th.

Meanwhile, at the southern tip of the county on Romney Marsh, six club members took part in the fast and flat Lydd half marathon, with Steve Ball first finisher for the club in a new personal best time of 1hr36m55s.

Results: Steve Ball 70th 1:36:55; Mel Moore 124th 1:45:07; Jason Beaney 164th 1:50:32; Lesley Irvine 226th 2:00:08; Emma Penfold 233rd 2:01:41; Celia Poke 342nd 2:33:48.

Further afield, Rob Standing was the club’s sole representative at the Silverstone half marathon in Northamptonshire, where he ran around the famous home of the British motor racing in a time of 2hr14m11s.

Standing finished 3,874th in a field of 5,680 runners.
