Beckenham continued their recent run of good form to overwhelm their neighbours with a fantastic five try demolition and move into sixth place in the league table.
Even more satisfying was the ‘clean’ sheet which more than made amends for the defeat to ‘nil’ at the hands of Colfeians earlier in the season.
Beckenham were straight out of the blocks and attacked from the kick off. Barely two minutes into the game a clean take at the lineout deep in the Colfeians half set up a good forwards drive.
With the quick ball, fly half James Perry fed blindside winger Laurence Headlam who cut through the defence and his long pass eventually found opposite winger, Mark Barber who scooped up the loose ball and went in to score.
Ted Mahutariki added the difficult conversion.
Before the visitors had a chance to settle down the whole process was repeated.
Straight from the restart Perry cut through the defence and found himself with only the full back to beat before releasing Barber to run in and touchdown giving Mahutariki the easiest of conversions and the home side a fourteen point lead with just five minutes on the clock.
This was extended to seventeen points after 15 minutes when Mahutariki slotted over a penalty in midfield from 35 metres.
Colfeians finally got themselves into the game and camped in the Beckenham half for fifteen minutes.
Despite a succession of line outs and scrums near the try line the visitors could not find a way through the home defence.
A Beckenham yellow card only seem to strengthen their resolve and when the visitors finally spilled the ball in the tackle, Perry played the advantage and ran 50 metres before chipping ahead for the rampaging Alex Jones to collect and score.
Mahutariki slotted over the extras to give the home side the half time lead by 24-0 Beckenham controlled the second half and were rewarded for their efforts with two Mahutariki penalties to extend the lead to 30 points.
The visitors tried to get back into the game but could not deal with the physical home defence and rarely threatened to score.
In the last 10 minutes the home side cut loose again, firstly the mercurial James Perry went on a mazy run and eluded the would be tacklers to score a fine unconverted try out wide.
Beckenham saved the best ‘till last, George Daniels capped a fine performance when he combined with Luke Aylward and Brendon Hamilton to snuff out a promising Colfeians attack and turn the ball over deep in the Beckenham half.
Then the home side’s backs sprung into action - Vai Mahutariki released Perry who fed Pete Isaac who in turn quickly got the ball to substitute Pat Wright.
Wright put on the afterburners and beat the cover defence to race in from fully 60 metres and score the try of the match.
Ted Mahutariki slotted over the conversion to leave the final score at 42-0 and record their fourth victory in a row.
