Jackett proud of Charlton demolition

MANAGER Kenny Jackett was delighted with his Millwall side's 4-0 win over rivals Charlton this afternoon in front of a full house at The Den.

Darren Ward headed the Lions in front near the end of the first half before a Christian Dailly own goal and Steve Morison brace completed an outstanding victory for the home side.

After seeing his team move up to fourth in the League One table and close the gap on Charlton to one point, Jackett claimed the atmosphere created by the sell-out home crowd inspired his players to overcome their neighbours.

"It is a great day for us," he said.

"I'm very proud as a manager to see that attendance and see The Den full, which is great.

"The fans certainly generated a great atmosphere for the players and I've got to say the players responded well to it.

"We looked a bit nervous at the start and the only clear cut chance we created until the goal was when Shaun Batt hit the ball against the keeper's legs.

"But it was a good header from Darren, which capped a very good performance from him.

"In the second half we produced a lot of quality and the goals we scored were excellent."

Key to the Lions' success was the clinical finishing from Morison, who has been instrumental in Millwall's recent good run.

"It is a really good period for Steve at the moment," Jackett said.

"He has had a good season and start to his Millwall career. He looks like he has a lot to prove, which is good for us."

The Lions are now just six points off the automatic promotion spots, but Jackett is determined to remain focused on the remaining games and not worry about the table just yet He said: "With 10 games to go, you need a sprint finish.

"It would be great if we can continue this run and maintain the amount of confidence we have got.

"I don’t look at the league too much because I know it can change.

"You have to focus on what you are doing right or what you need to do but, yes, the table is looking healthy for us at the minute.

"We have now got to keep going, keep focusing.

"With 10 games of the season left, to be in the hunt is a nice position to be in.

"The future is in our hands."
