MORE than 100 pupils from West Gate and The Brent primary schools got the chance to tee up last week with professionals from Dartford Golf Club.
The initiative by Dartford GC is aimed to make golf the new sporting passion of the region’s children.
Professional John Gregory said: “The success of players like Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia has made golf extremely popular with young people, but the problem for most has been how to get started in the game.”
Instead of their usual PE lesson, the youngsters took to the specially designed mini tri-golf golf course to enjoy a fun filled golfing afternoon with Gregory and his team, learnt a few tips along the way.
“It’s great to see just how much fun and enjoyment the game of golf can bring,” added Gregory.
“When kids are having fun, they are learning and the great thing about tri-golf is it is all about having fun with golf.”
Dartford GC run several after school academies in partnership with the Golf Foundation, with the next classes due to get underway this month.
There are also Easter camps scheduled throughout the school holidays.
